I’m a full-stack Java developer with 25+ years of experience building secure, large-scale systems for federal healthcare and financial services. Most recently I spent 14 years as lead developer at Carelon Federal Services, where I owned the backend for Military One Source — a federal platform serving over three million users seeking mental health and insurance claim services.

My background sits at an interesting intersection: deep legacy system knowledge (Java, Spring Boot, Oracle, DB2, even COBOL where it still matters) combined with active investment in where the industry is heading — AWS certified in 2026, hands-on with Docker, PostgreSQL, and serverless caching, and regularly using AI-assisted development tools in my own engineering work.

Security has been a consistent thread throughout my career. I’ve hand-coded cryptographic implementations from RFC specifications, built drivers to utilize FIPS 140-2 compliant encryption interfaces, and at the graduate research level, implemented a proof-of-concept Windows kernel mode driver that exploited Direct Memory Access to capture keystrokes via GPU memory — alongside a companion detection tool using the PCI bus to expose GPU-resident malware. I understand security at an implementation level, not just a configuration level.

Before my software career I served in the U.S. Marine Corps, where I built manpower and finance systems in COBOL/CICS and was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for technical innovation. That background shapes how I think about ownership, accountability, and building things that have to work.

Outside of work I’m building a few things for myself: an Android app called Japa — a mantra-counting app with some unusual design decisions driven by real user needs — and a personal AWS project where I’m getting hands-on with the cloud-native patterns I want to bring into my professional work.
